Field Trip: Spring Migration in Signal Hill and Long Beach

Sun, May 11, 2025

Leader: Christine Jacobs

Please come join us to explore spring migration hotspots around the cities of Signal Hill and Long Beach. We will start at Signal Hill and will have a second stop to be determined later. Signal Hill has nice views of flowering silk oak and eucalyptus trees and tall snags at elevated positions. We hope to find orioles, Western Tanager, Black-headed Grosbeak, Lazuli Bunting, assorted flycatchers, and warblers.

Signal Hill trails (lower portions) has some loose rock and gravel and pass through oil well operations. There are no bathrooms on the trail. Street parking is limited, and carpooling is strongly encouraged. You will receive an email with instructions on where to meet (and bathroom options nearby). The field trip is capped at 25 people.

All individuals under the age of 18 participating in a LAB sponsored event must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or an adult designated as responsible for their well-being including their safety, behavior, and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations during the course of the event, program, activity, etc.
