O’Melveny Park is at the northern edge of the San Fernando Valley, and can be a great place to find migrating and breeding birds in the spring and early summer. Located in a small canyon with lots of mature trees, a stream, and both cultivated and wild areas, this can be a very productive place, especially during migration seasons. We can expect to see a variety of migrating warblers, Lazuli Buntings and Black-Headed Grosbeaks, as well as resident breeding birds like Red-shouldered Hawk, Western Bluebird, and Rufous-crowned Sparrow.
This will be a family-friendly walk, suitable for all LAB-S members and their families. O’Melveny has plenty of picnic tables, open lawn space, and bathrooms, so is a very friendly place for non-birding family members!
