Leader: Lance Benner
Note: this trip is on a Friday morning.
This trip will look for birds at Chantry Flat and then hike down into Big Santa Anita Canyon, where our principal targets will be Canyon Wren, American Dipper, spring migrants, and other canyon birds. We may hike to the slot canyon above Sturtevant Falls for a total distance of 4 miles. Please note that the hike back up to the cars is quite steep so we’ll take it slowly with stops.
This area is recovering from the Bobcat Fire in 2020 and the canyon bottom is now more open than in previous years. An Adventure Pass is required to park at Chantry Flat; if you don’t have one, you need to get one ahead of time. Other passes, such as “America the Beautiful”, are also acceptable. We plan to do a lot of birding by ear and may try recording some songs, so please feel free to bring recording equipment including cell phones. There should also be flowers in bloom.
Steady rain cancels but light drizzle does not.
