Are you interested in learning about bird identification in an online class and in-person field trips, in a safe and fun environment? Look no further! Birding 101 is the beginning birding class that’s been so successful for over a decade. It is designed to give budding birders and LAB-S parents the structure, knowledge, and tools to bird with confidence.
This time, classes will be online (but field trips in person), so that participants don’t need to drive through LA traffic on weekday afternoons/evenings.
This course is made up of three online classroom sessions in the evenings of March 2, 10, and 16 2023 (Thursday, Friday, and Thursday), from 6:30–9pm. A class link will be sent to all participants. There will also be two field trips in the mornings of March 4 and 11, 2023, starting at 8am at Los-Angeles-area locations to be determined. Participants are expected to attend all three classes and both field trips.
To sign up, fill out the form below. Registration is $100 for non-LAB members (this includes LAB membership for 1 year), and $80 for LAB members. Registration is only $10 for LAB-S student members ages 12-17 (or $20 if you’re not a member of LAB-S yet). For LAB-S students, a parent must sign up and take the course as well; please sign up the student and parent separately.
About your instructors: Ron Cyger and Mark Scheel have over 50 years of combined birding experience. They have birded throughout the world, but have a real expertise and love of the birds of Southern California. Mark and Ron have taught Birding 101 for over 10 years and have helped hundreds of new birders gain the skills and knowledge needed for birding.
Currently signup is limited to LAB members, who will receive an email with instructions for how to sign up.
